Are you unhappy with your job? If so, you aren't alone. A recent study from Glassroom showed that 33% of people are dissatisfied at their jobs. However, many of them feel stuck and don't know how to make a change.
Perhaps it's the tight job market and the ever growing pressure that most professionals feel right now. "If you're lucky enough to have a job, you should be happy" is the current refrain. After all, how can you complain about how much your job sucks when half of your friends have been laid off, downsized or otherwise out of work?
If you're feeling stuck, here are 4 things you can do:
Get out of your comfort zone - If you've been doing the same thing for a long time, it's time for a change. You don't have to change jobs in order to get un-stuck. Look at what other people are doing around you. Are they taking chances and trying something new? Look for ways to make your job more interesting, more exciting or just more fun. Take the risk.
Show maturity - The bad thing about feeling stuck is that you stop growing and maturing. It's easy to stop learning new things and end up making yourself less likely to be promoted. Make a commitment to learn a new skill and challenge yourself to achieve new things.
Sell yourself - There are many people who have trouble selling themselves. They are happy working in the background and don't want to rock the boat. If this sounds familiar, pay attention to how others sell their ideas and talents. This will give you some insight into how to make your voice heard.
Network, network, network - You might be stuck because you hang around with a group of friends who maybe aren't the best for your career. Successful people spend time around other successful people. If you want to make changes, get out and network with other professionals. Find a mentor or just get to know more people. The more time you spend with successful people, the more inspired you will become.
Hopefully, these tips will help you get un-stuck and on with your career.
