His famous discovery, inspired by an apple dropping at his feet, helped us understand the laws of gravity and how they work. No one today would doubt that gravity exists. No one would refute the law of gravity and how it affects the physical world.
It never ceases to amaze me how some job candidates do so much better than others when interviewing for a position. If you want to find the job of your dreams there are certain rules, or laws, much like gravity, that you must follow if you hope to be successful.
For example, last week I was speaking with an individual who was quite dissatisfied with his present place of employment. He had applied at a local university, but never made the final cut for an interview. He was dismayed to say the least. He felt he should have been offered an interview and the position because of the volunteer work he had been doing over the last two years for the department. This person did not grasp the rules of applying for, and being offered, a job at this institution. Unfortunately this person did not have any prior experience with a university working in a similar job. Also, he was not aware of the guidelines the university used for qualifying potential candidates for that particular position. Not knowing these laws eliminated any real chance of his making it to the final interview cycle.

Avoid using “ums” and “ahs” and “you knows.” An excessive amount of this empty chatter could serve only to eliminate you from serious consideration for the job in which you are applying. One of the best ways to prevent this from happening is to think about what you want to say before you say it. Speak slowly and deliberately. It is ok to pause before you answer.
Finally, make good eye contact with your interviewer. People have a tendency to trust people who can look them squarely in the eye. It communicates sincerity and self confidence. This is a skill that warrants practicing. If you can follow these rules or laws of advancing your career, you will be one of the chosen few who gets the job of his or her dreams.
