With graduation coming for many college students, competition is heating up for the available positions that companies are needing to fill. College graduates who are seeking to begin their careers with
a full time job, working for an ideal company in the right position, must have a strategy. In this article I have put together three more ideas that come from the late
W. Clement Stone, success author and motivator to millions of people.
It goes without saying that the college graduate who has the best plan will be far more successful in landing the job of his or her dreams, than those who have a weak one. There are certain elements that you can incorporate into your plan that will allow you to actually enjoy the action you take to be successful in this endeavor. Let’s look at these action ideas from Mr. Stone.
First, “You don’t need to know the answers in advance, if you are on the right course.” Stone’s idea is a good one. If you have taken the time to research the direction you are taking to secure your first job, you will be on the right course. By identifying the best type of companies that match your skill sets and your career goals, you can organize your activities that will allow you to overcome the obstacles you will inevitably encounter. Rest assured, you will figure out solutions to the problems you will face. It seems that the universe will provide an opportunity for the right information and people to enter into your life at the right time, assisting you on this journey.
Next, “Don’t work hard for nothing. With less work directed systematically, you can succeed.” What W. Clement Stone is indicating with this suggestion is that by having a system that pinpoints the right things to do, the right places to look, and the right activities to engage in, you can be more successful. You don’t have to work hard and come up short with your efforts. By taking the time to focus your efforts through a proven strategy, you can succeed.
Finally, “It is often necessary to gain additional knowledge to meet changing conditions.” Recognizing you are on a life’s journey of continual learning, make up your mind to keep yourself on a learning curve. Books, blogs, e-magazines, audio podcasts and the people you meet are all part of the mix. Ninety nine and nine tenths of the best books I have read have come after college. By creating your own continuous improvement plan, you will give yourself an extreme advantage over other job seekers. If you stay true to this continual improvement plan, this advantage will stay with you for the rest of your life.
